For Visitors

Knoxville is located in the Valley-and-Ridge geologic province near the majestic Great Smoky Mountains National Park in the heart of the Blue Ridge province. Knoxville and The University of Tennessee are easily accessed by highway (we sit astride I-40) and by air (using McGhee-Tyson Airport).

For directions to the Strong Hall, home of the Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences, use 1621 Cumberland Avenue, Knoxville in the directions box of your mapping tool. The department is located on Cumberland Avenue, but most easily accessed from the White Avenue entrance of the building. Visitor parking is available in a public parking lot on north side White Avenue between 16th and James Agee Streets. Follow well marked signs to the garage entrance.

The Department is located on the 5th, 6th, and 7th floors of Strong Hall.

The Earth & Planetary Sciences main office is located on the 6th floor lobby near the elevators.
